Burke CARES is grateful to all the people and faith communities which
help us take care of members of our community who are not as well off as
others.
Now we are looking to go beyond our immediate community to network with
other people to learn how to best help Burke Center be a community in which
residents know each other and are aware of each other's needs, and see
that these needs are met.
In Shreveport, Louisiana, a community-building non-profit organization
has just been donated a 14 story office building, which they plan to use
as a national center for community building. In Cleveland, Mississippi,
Delta State University has a graduate program in local community development.
Berea, Kentucky has a solid, established community building movement.
A study in community development is beginning to emerge at George Mason
University in Fairfax, Virginia.
We are looking to network with all these people, to learn from them
how best to help Burke Centre become a true community. |
